ith The Starry Night, painted in 1889, Vincent van Gogh left behind the Impressionist doctrine of truth
to nature in favour of restless feeling and intense colour, as in this highly charged picture, a touchstone
for all subsequent Expressionist painting. The composition of The Starry Night can generally be divided into
three specific sections, each adding their own aspects and power to the impression derived from the painting.
First, Van Gogh's night sky is a field of roiling energy. It is filled with swirling clouds, a bright crescent
moon and stars ablaze with their own luminescence. The stars in the night sky are indeed surrounded by their
own orbs of light. This depiction of the sky keeps the viewer's eyes moving about the painting, following the
curves and creating a visual dot to dot with the stars. Through this movement, the painting keeps the onlooker
involved while the other factors take hold.
It is note worthy that Van Gogh had already, during his time in Arles, repositioned Ursa Major from the north
to the south in his painting Starry Night Over the Rhone. This is repeated here.
Van Gogh wrote of the impression that led to the painting to his brother Theo: "This morning I saw the country
from my window a long time before sunrise, with nothing but the morning star, which looked very big."
This morning star, or Venus, may be the large white star just left of centre in The Starry Night.
Below the exploding stars, among the rolling hills of the horizon, the village is a place of quiet order.
There is a peaceful essence flowing from the structures with the cool dark colours and fiery windows. This
brings a sense of stability onto the town, while also bringing with it a sense of size and seclusion. Though
often considered to be the village of Saint-Remy, the village is made-up, with the spire of the church evoking
van Gogh's native Netherlands. Just like its daytime companion, The Olive Trees, Starry Starry Night is
rooted in memory and imagination.
To the left in the painting there is a massive dark structure which brings the connection between the earth
and sky, magnificent when compared to the scale of other objects in the painting. Flame-like in its
appearance, this is a cypress tree, a tree sort normally associated with mourning and graveyards. Not
that death was an ominous subject for Van Gogh. "Looking at the stars always makes me dream," he said,
"Why, I ask myself, shouldn't the shining dots of the sky be as accessible as the black dots on the map
of France? Just as we take the train to get to Tarascon or Rouen, we take death to reach a star."
Let's look at some reasons why
you should order Starry Night from us.

an Gogh's own writing provides us with some insights as to his own personal views towards
the paintings. As can be seen, he was not initially overly enthusiastic about the painting. As he wrote to
his brother Theo, when he sent it along with some other paintings:
"The first four canvases are studies without the effect of a whole that
the others have . . . The olives with white clouds and background of mountains, also the moonrise and
the night effect, these are exaggerations from the point of view of arrangement, their lines are warped
as that of old wood."
Later in this letter, Van Gogh once more referred to the painting:
"In this entire batch I think nothing at all good save the field of wheat,
the mountain, the orchard, the olives with the blue hills and the portrait and the entrance to the
Quarry, and the rest says nothing to me, because it lacks individual intention and feeling in the lines.
Where these lines are close and deliberate it begins to be a picture, even if it is
exaggerated. That is a little what Bernard and Gauguin feel, they do not ask the correct shape of a
tree at all, but they insist absolutely that one can say if the shape is round or square - and my
word, they are right, exasperated as they are by certain people's photographic and empty perfection.
Certainly they will not ask the correct tone of the mountains, but they will say:
In the Name of God, the mountains were blue, were they? Then chuck on some blue and don't go
telling me that it was a blue rather like this or that, it was blue, wasn't it? Good - make them
blue and it's enough! Gauguin is sometimes like a genius when he explains this, but as for the
genius Gauguin has, he is very timid about showing it, and it is touching the way he likes to
say something really useful to the young. How strange he is all the same. "

Exactly Like the Original |

"My girlfriend has always loved Van Gogh in general and the Starry Night

hanging right there in our livingroom, looking exactly like the original."

ome further speculations have been made about the painting. During Van Gogh's
younger years (1876-1880) he wanted to dedicate his life to evangelization of those in poverty.
Many believe that this religious endeavour may be reflected in the eleven stars of the painting.
In Genesis 37:9 the following statement is made:
"And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold,
I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made
obeisance to me."
Whether this in any way affected this composition is not known.
Even though Van Gogh sold only one painting in his life, the influence of his
work is enormous. Among the most influential is The Starry Night which is one of the most
well known images in modern art. From Don McLean's song Vincent (Starry, Starry Night' - Based on
the Painting), to a never ending amount of merchandise products sporting the image, it is truly
universally recognised.
Among other, the painting inspired French composer Henri Dutilleux for the
orchestral work "Timbres, Espace, Mouvement", American poet Anne Sexton's poem "The Starry Night",
Canadian composer Giancarlo Scalia's piano composition "Starry Night" and for Don McLean's song
"Vincent", which is also known by its opening words, "Starry, Starry Night." "Jack's Mannequin"
and "Something Corporate" singer Andrew McMahon has a tattoo of the painting on his arm. The
painting has been recreated in the 3d world Second Life by artist Robbie Dingo, and the
recreation was filmed and set to Don McLean's song. The painting also made an appearance and
had an important role in the fifth season episode "Starry Night" of "Boy Meets World". Joe Satriani
has a song entitled "Starry Night".

or us, we did not arrive at The Starry Night through the direct route.
Following careers that focused more on business and less on art, we finally got our bearings and
opened a small gallery in central Copenhagen, Denmark, focusing on reproduction paintings. From
there, we have moved on to the Internet in order to be able to offer museum quality reproductions
to a larger audience of fellow art enthusiasts.
With our gallery, we initially used painters from Thailand for our
paintings. However, while traveling in China, we came about a small group of painters specialized
in the works of Van Gogh and, more than anything, in The Starry Night. As this has always been our
Van Gogh favorite, indeed probably our favorite in the world of arts, we decided to work closer
with these dedicated specialists to bring their craft beyond the borders of the middle kingdom.
We therefore set up this web site, dedicated solely to this most amazing accomplishment of Vincent
Van Gogh, The Starry Night. We hope you will join us in our appreciation for this amazing feat of
art, and wish you all the best as we offer you the unique opportunity to have a truly museum
quality version of this master piece for yourself.
Excellent Service |

"The service was excellent, the communication easy and on time and of
course the painting itself was fantastic - and delivered on time, I might add.
Thank you for a truly great internet buying experience."
